Multimedia & Social Web Computing Researcher

Home

You have reached Dr. Jose San Pedro Wandelmer's web page. I recently finished a postdoc research fellowship in the Information Retrieval Group at The University of Sheffield. I received my Ph.D. from the Computer Vision Group of UPM-DISAM (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) studying different aspects of Visual Information Management Systems, including video analysis & processing, digital rights management, and efficient media processing computation.

I am the founder and main developer of the Open Source Project Fobs.

I am currently in the job market.

Research Interests

I am a researcher in Multimedia and Social Web Computing. I am interested in methods for enhancing search and user experience in multimedia-enabled contexts, especially on-line communities. Web 2.0 sites feature an enormous amount of user activity which gets collected in the form of new content, associated metadata and different implicit and explicit user feedback parameters. Using data mining techniques and combining them with content analysis methods, such activity can be harnessed to better understand both the community and the shared content. My main research line focuses on combining visual content analysis with web users generated data mining to improve search, summarization and discovery of new resources.

My current research topics include: multimedia information retrieval, specifically for still and moving images; visual content automatic analysis and understanding; social media analysis and Web 2.0 data mining.
